Taipans Off-Season Report - March 2026

With their 2025-26 NBL campaigns complete, the Kenfrost Homes Cairns Taipans have taken their talents across the globe. Keep up to date with all their latest moves and performances here.

Returning to Puerto Rico for his second stint in the BSN, Sam Waardenburg won’t be the only Taipan in the league.

While the forward will once more join the Indios de Mayagüez, both Jack McVeigh and Admiral Schofield have followed him across the Pacific Ocean.

Waardenburg will help launch the league’s season when the Indios take on Leones de Ponce on March 22 at 10am AEST, with McVeigh needing to wait until March 28 at 10am AEST to begin his own campaign.

Signing with the Santeros de Aguada, Schofield will start his season against McVeigh who has joined the Capitanes de Arecibo, with the fixture set for March 30 at 10am AEST.

All BSN games are available LIVE on the Baloncesto Superior Nacional YouTube channel.

As the NBL1 prepares to launch across the country, six Taipans will be present in four of the five conferences.

Re-signing with the Cairns Marlins for his third straight year, Kody Stattmann will be looking to build off his impressive 2025 NBL1 campaign and his strong finish to the NBL season. Averaging 24.9 and 27.5 points over his last two seasons, the guard already poses a strong threat in the league and will face the Townsville Heat on April 18 at 8pm AEST to open his season.

After spending his 2025 off-season with the Marlins, Alex Higgins-Titsha will relocate to the NBL1 East after signing with the Bankstown Bruins. Already playing 66 games with the Inner West Bulls, the forward will return to his home state ahead of their first fixture on March 28 at 6:30pm AEST.

Joining the forward in the conference, Reyne Smith will suit up for the Maitland Mustangs. Previously competing for the North-West Tasmania Thunder in 2019, the guard also played for the BA Centre of Excellence in the Waratah League before departing for his college career.

Also changing clubs, Lachlan Barker will return to the mainland after signing with Geelong United. Representing his home state last season with the North-West Tasmania Thunder where he averaged 18.5 points, 3.7 assists and 3 rebounds, the guard previously spent six years with the Frankstown Blues during his long stint in the conference.

In the NBL1 Central, Lloyd McVeigh has re-signed with the South Adelaide Panthers for what will be his third season with the club. Averaging 16.9 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.5 assists across his 2025 campaign, the guard willbe looking to lead the Panthers deeper into the post-season after their fourth placed finish last year.

Fellow development player Jed Richardson will suit up for his fourth straight season with the Northside Wizards. Steadily building his output over his time with the club, the center averaged 11.1 points and 7.6 rebounds last season, and found himself ranked 14th in the state for rebounding.

After relocating to Queensland last year to join the Taipans, Angus Henskens will remain in the state as the off-season begins. Signing with the Mackay Meteors as their Head Coach, Henskens’ season will begin on April 18 at 8:30pm, with his return to the Far North scheduled for May 23 when his side will face the Marlins.

Flying directly into China after the completion of the NBL season, Andrew Andrews joined Zhejiang Chouzhou during their mid-season break.

First returning to the court last week, the Hangzhou-based club lost their first game before securing a narrow three-point overtime win and a dominant 13-point victory, with the guard averaging 14 points, 5.6 rebounds and six assists across his opening three games.

Backing up his last off-season in Japan by signing in Korea, Kyrin Galloway has joined Changwon LG Sakers in the Korean Basketball League.

Currently sitting first with six games remaining, the LG Sakers are sitting in a strong position to win back-to-back championships, with the Taipan in a prime spot to lead them to it.

They’ll hit the court for their next game on March 26, with their regular season wrapping up on April 4.

All games are broadcast LIVE on the Korean Basketball League YouTube channel.

Leaving Australia but remaining in the region, Marcus Lee has joined the San Miguel Beermen of the Philippine Basketball Association ahead of their Commissioner's Cup campaign.

Beginning their season this weekend, Lee will compete in their 12-game season across the next two months, with their final fixture on May 9.

Making his debut in Europe, Mojave King has joined Mykonos B.C. in the Greek Basketball League.

Signing with the club with seven of their 24 games remaining, the guard contributed 13 points, three assists, two boards and a steal on debut, with his side sitting ninth in the league.

With five of their games remaining, Mykonos need to battle their way into eighth to secure their spot in the post-season.

Fresh off his fifth season in Cairns, Lead Assistant Coach Will Lopez has travelled across the Tasman to lead the Hawke’s Bay Hawks.

Taking over from former-Taipans Assistant Coach Sam Gruggen and with Jarrod Kenny as his General Manager, Lopez will join a franchise with plenty of familiar faces ahead of their season launch on April 11.

With Alex Higgins-Titsha and Lachlan Barker being key pieces of Adam Forde’s Gangurrus, the duo will rotate in and out of action as their Head Coach bolters his lineup with both the 2026 Commonwealth Games and 2028 Olympic Games in sight.

Having wrapped up their Champions Cup campaign with one win from their three pool games, their sights will now be set on the Asia Cup starting on April 4, before turning their focus to the World Cup and Commonwealth Games later in the off-season.
