The Kenfrost Homes Cairns Taipans’ injury list continues to grow, with Reyne Smith and Kody Stattmann ruled out for the next two rounds. They will join Alex Higgins-Titsha (wrist) and Sam Waardenburg (ankle) on the sidelines in yet another staggering setback.
Smith injured his right foot in the team’s recent win over Tasmania, and scans have revealed a small plantar fascia tear. He is scheduled to return on 22 November.
Stattmann (hamstring) missed Round 7 and is still recovering from a strain he sustained against Perth. He is also due to return in Round 10.
Both development players Lloyd McVeigh and Jed Richardson will suit up for the two upcoming Cairns home fixtures and make the road trip to Adelaide next week.
Injury replacement player Lachlan Barker remains on the roster for Waardenburg, while Mojave King replaces Higgins-Titsha and will make his debut as a Taipan at the Cairns Convention Centre tomorrow night, Taipans vs Hawks, 6:30pm AEST.
