CBI welcomes Graham Burns

Cairns Basketball Inc. (CBI) is pleased to announce the appointment of esteemed basketball administrator Graham Burns, as General Manager of the association.
The former Basketball Queensland CEO takes over the role of General Manager from Michael Scott, who will continue to work at CBI alongside Mr Burns and continue in his duties as a Taipans Board Member.
Mr Scott, CBI President Mark Beecroft, and the Management Committee have been focused on developing a succession strategy for the future of the association and the growth of the game in Far North Queensland.
Mr Beecroft said that this appointment was a significant one, with Mr Burns set to bring a wealth of experience that will bolster the association’s governance, strategic plans and expansion.
“We are extremely pleased and proud to welcome Graham Burns to Cairns Basketball. His tenure at Basketball Queensland is nothing short of impressive and our association will reap the rewards of his experience and achievements,” he said.
“Mike Scott has done a brilliant job over the years, and he has been very cognisant of establishing a well-structured succession plan that will ensure the association continues to advance, so this appointment is very timely.
“We are extremely fortunate that we will have both Graham and Mike working together at CBI for this next phase – I would argue we now have the most experienced administration for any basketball association in Queensland.”
Burns was the CEO of Basketball Queensland for almost two decades, ensuring a legacy of sustained growth and financial stability during his remarkable tenure.
He is recognised for his high-performance restructure that has been emulated across numerous States and Territories, updating the format of the QBL, the introduction of the BQ Indigenous Pathways Program and significant growth in participation.
His business acumen and leadership services were acknowledged at the QSport Awards in 2015 when he was named the QSport Administrator of the Year.
He will commence his role as CBI General Manager next month.
