Kenfrost Homes Cairns Taipans congratulate Cairns born-and-bred Kody Stattmann and fellow sharpshooter Reyne Smith who have both been selected in the Australian Boomers squad for the upcoming FIBA Basketball World Cup Asian qualifiers.
Announced by Basketball Australia on Wednesday night, Stattmann and Smith will represent Australia in fixtures against Guam at the University of Guam on 26 February, before travelling to Manila to face the Philippines on 1 March.
Stattmann has represented Australia on multiple occasions including the FIBA Under-17 World Cup, Under-17 Oceania Championships, Under-18 Asia Cup and the FIBA Under-19 World Cup.
However, this is his first call-up at senior level.
The 25-year-old guard is enjoying a breakout campaign, racking up a career-best 23 appearances despite a hamstring injury that kept him out of action for four rounds.
The dangerous scorer is finishing the season in fine form following a coming-of-age performance against the Tasmania JackJumpers, pouring in 18 points and scoring seven of his team’s 12 overtime points as Cairns sealed a 96-93 win.
Stattmann also notched 15 points, four rebounds and three assists against rivals the Bullets in Round 20.

Smith returns to the Australian side after the Tasmanian suited up in green and gold last year at the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup in Saudi Arabia.
The 23-year-old averaged 9 points and 3.2 rebounds across five games to help Australia win their third straight gold medal.
After missing most of the season with a plantar fascia tear in his right foot, Smith has returned to the starting lineup over the past two rounds.
The three-point specialist showcased his range against Melbourne United, drilling a trio of first-half threes while also recording three steals on the defensive end.
