The Kenfrost Homes Cairns Taipans are pleased to announce the return of Kyrin Galloway, with the athletic forward committing to a third season with the team on a new one-year deal.
Galloway first joined the Taipans in 2024, with his mutual option being exercised for 2025-26 and leading to a career-best campaign under Taipans Head Coach Adam Forde.
The 26-year-old averaged 7.6 points and 4.6 rebounds, while being elevated to the starting line-up in 22 of his 33 appearances. He recorded his first career double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds against Illawarra, to go with two steals.
Galloway’s defensive abilities also flourished in his second season in orange, finishing with the fourth most blocks in the NBL by a forward and earning the Taipans’ Defensive Player of the Year award.
“Kyrin has been here during the lean times and stepped up, especially during the stretches of injury. It wasn’t easy but he built a lot of resilience over that time, and now we are getting a version of Kyrin that is hungry,” said Coach Forde.
“What’s cool is Kyrin knows what he’s in for, and we know what we’re getting. He’s over losing like I am and is ready for a big year.”
Extending his stint to three seasons, Cairns will become the Club where Galloway has spent the longest time in his career and is one of three returning Taipans from the 2025-26 roster.
“It’s exciting it is to have Kyrin back – he adds depth and talent to our team,” continued Coach Forde.
“We can play him in that four or five spot depending on the lineup because we can use him as a pop threat against a team that defends in the key or get him on the rim against the teams that hedge the ball handler.
“For me personally, it also adds some consistency with all the new faces coming in.”
After leaving the University of North Carolina Galloway earned his first contract in 2020 with the New Zealand Breakers as a development player before being elevated to their main roster the following year.
His next move was to South Australia in 2022, with a string of breakout performances and more court time in his second season with the 36ers. He reached a season-high of 23-points and nine boards in Round 16 to secure a starting role for the remainder of the season.
Adelaide went 5-2 across their final games with Galloway being named the Club’s Most Improved Player.
Galloway found his new home in the Far North in 2024 where his scoring output saw an instant rise under Forde, averaging over one three-pointer per game for the first time in his career, while shooting from the field at a career high 47.2%.
Becoming one of the league’s most accurate forwards from range last season, his offensive game continues to improve.
After leading the Iwate Big Bulls in the Japanese B3 League to promotion last off-season, Galloway joined the Changwon LG Sakers in the Korean Basketball League earlier this year.
Helping the side close out their regular season, he played a key role in their post-season push including a 21-point and 14-rebound performance, before they were eliminated in the semi-finals.
Kyrin Galloway joins Jack McVeigh, Reyne Smith, Shaun Bruce and Next Star Luke Paul as officially contracted to the Kenfrost Homes Cairns Taipans’ 2026-27 roster.
