The CQUniversity Cairns Taipans organisation are shocked and saddened over the unexpected passing of Taipans Board Member and long-time supporter, Ross Moller. First and foremost, Ross loved his family, but the Taipans and sports were also a second family to him.
He has been an integral part of the club’s achievements over the past decade – contributing generously as a sponsor and personally as a volunteer Board member, holding the role of Treasurer. He leaves a huge hole in the Cairns community as an esteemed real estate agent and owner of the successful LJ Hooker Edge Hill franchise and President of Cairns Amateurs.
Taipans President Troy Stone said that he would dearly miss his friend and colleague, with the Taipans Board still coming to terms with the sudden passing.
“Ross was so dedicated to our club and rarely missed a game or club event. He always made an effort to show his support and was regularly sticking his head in my office just to have a chat and see how things were going. He didn’t mince his words, he held us all to account in his role as Treasurer and kept his eye on our bottom line.
“I have great memories of working with him, road trips with the team, long days to ensure the stability of the club and good laughs. He was an all-round great guy. On behalf of the Board, I want to let the Moller family know that we are so sorry for their loss and they are in our thoughts.”
Taipans CEO Mark Beecroft said the front office and team were informed yesterday of the sad news.
“We’ve lost a giant player in our team. Ross was the first to put his hand up when work needed to be done – whether it was opening important doors or dropping membership flyers on seats. Ross would even work his house sales and auctions around prioritising the Taipans.
“He loved this club and the people in it loved him back. We want to thank Des, Nadine, Nick and Ben for being so accommodating with his time and his commitment to us. We couldn’t recruit another Ross Moller.”
The club’s thoughts and deepest condolences are with the Moller family: Des, Nadine, Nick, Ben and the grandchildren.
