The CQUniversity Cairns Taipans is the only the national sports team of Cairns and competes in Australia’s NBL - one of the world’s premier basketball leagues that is regarded as the second-best domestic competition after the NBA. The club is well-connected to the grassroots of basketball and has strong ties to Cairns Basketball Inc., in both its current operational structure and in future strategic planning.
CBI is one of the most successful associations in Queensland and continues to advance in their development of junior talent, coaches, and referees. Together, both organisations share the common goal of driving the growth of the game and promoting participation in the region.
As such, an exciting full-time role has been identified that will further strengthen this connection, with a Media Coordinator required to help deliver the media and communications of both prominent Far North Queensland sporting organisations.
This is a great opportunity for a sports media professional looking to take on comms and content responsibilities for a high-profile sports team; as well as promote grassroots tournaments and national, state and local competitions that regularly highlights Cairns on the sporting map.
As a full-time role, hours of work average 38 hours a week which will involve weekend and evening work throughout the year to support game days and scheduled events. The ideal candidate will have some previous experience in media and/or marketing, with capabilities in video, editing and social media.
Responsibilities:
- Create and develop promotional content for both organisations
- Execute and maintain content calendar, with KPI reports
- Write editorial for cairnsbasketball.com and taipans.com
- Manage the Taipans and CBI brand across all digital platforms, populating social media channels - Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok etc.
- Design and distribute e-news (including monthly newsletter)
- Content capturing at, but not limited to: competitions, training, games, events, interviews
- Edit and produce short form videos for online publication
- Manage media enquiries, releases and press conferences
The ideal candidate will:
- Have a strong understanding of the social media landscape
- Be passionate about sports and creating digital sports content
- Possess good communication and interpersonal skills
- Work well under pressure and in a “live game” environment
- Have excellent attention-to-detail and proofreading skills
- Be able to multitask and work autonomously
- Have flexibility to work evenings and weekends during game days and events
Requirements:
- At least two years’ experience in a communications role
- Proficient in capturing professional content – video, photos, audio
- Those with video editing experience will be highly regarded
- Relevant tertiary qualification: eg. Communications, Digital Media or similar preferred
- Possess a Blue Card or be willing to apply
