The CQUniversity Cairns Taipans' upcoming road fixtures have been postponed, in changes made by the National Basketball League today in line with COVID health and safety protocols.
The Taipans will no longer travel to Brisbane for the Boxing Day clash or the January 2 game in Illawarra against the Hawks.
The Hawks recently returned positive test results, and as the Bullets were the last team to play Illawarra, Queensland Health deemed Brisbane close contacts and ordered follow-up testing.
Positive results have since been returned from Brisbane thus the Boxing Day game between Brisbane and the Cairns Taipans has been postponed. All games will be rescheduled.
The health and safety of the players, coaches, clubs, staff and fans is the League’s number one priority when considering these matters, and noted that Illawarra and Brisbane players and staff are double vaccinated.
The Taipans will await schedule updates from the league and will remain in Cairns for the meantime. No home games have been changed, with the Taipans next hosting the Breakers on New Year's Eve at the Cairns Convention Centre.
