Ahead of the inaugural Summer Shootout, the Kenfrost Homes Cairns Taipans have nominated the Brisbane Bullets as their matchup for the competition.
The high-scoring Summer Shootout will kick off in January, with every team needing to score as many points as possible in an away game that they've nominated – regardless of the final result of the game.
Able to strategically nominate their away game, each club has eyed up one game across January in which they will prepare to turn up the scoring for.
After the opening nine rounds of the 2024-25 season, Queensland rivals Brisbane have conceded 91 points per game at home and were ripe for the picking - resulting in Cairns choosing them for the inaugural Summer Shootout.
Under the direction of Head Coach Adam Forde, the Taipans have gone undefeated in Brisbane – with half of their games surpassing 100 points despite no fixtures being sent to overtime.

They’ll face the Bullets on the 17th of January at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre, before returning home to host the Illawarra Hawks on the 19th of January who have nominated Cairns for their own Summer Shootout game.
Fans can also join in on the fun by nominating which club they think will win and how many points they will score – with $100,000 up for grabs. Make your nominations by the 3rd of January at nbl.com.au/shootout.
