The Kenfrost Homes Cairns Taipans forward Sam Waardenburg is set to spend another lengthy period on the sidelines, after sustaining a left ankle injury on Monday night.
Early reports are indicating high-grade Anterior Talo-Fibular Ligament (ATFL) and Calcaneofibular Ligament (CFL) injuries, with recovery expected to take a minimum of six weeks.
The Taipans are hopeful Waardenburg will be able to make a return for the team’s final game of the season against the New Zealand Breakers in February.
The injury occurred during the third quarter of the rescheduled Round 19 clash against the Brisbane Bullets.
The Club and its medical staff will continue to support Waardenburg with his rehabilitation.
The Taipans now participate in HoopsFest in Perth, facing the Breakers on Saturday.
Waardenburg has not made the road trip, and will remain in Cairns with Reyne Smith and Mawot Mag. Both development players Lloyd McVeigh and Jed Richardson have travelled.
