The CQUniversity Cairns Taipans welcome the season update from the NBL with the first part of a rolling schedule announced today, that will see the Taipans play nine games in the first five rounds. The Taipans will start their 2021 campaign on the road in Brisbane and host eight games from 19 January – 15 February at the Cairns Pop-up Arena.
Taipans Head Coach Mike Kelly said after months of training, the team would be thrilled to finally have a confirmed season date to work to.
“Our team are itching to get on court – it has been an extremely long off-season and it’s been frustrating for a group that is so competitive, energetic and passionate about playing.
“We look forward to starting our season against our Queensland rivals and then having a great run of home games at our temporary stadium – which we know the Orange Army will enjoy.”
The NBL have indicated that they are still considering a hub for a portion of the season, with the regular season expected to finish in May ahead of the finals.

NBL Owner and Executive Chairman Larry Kestelman thanked the NBL clubs and broader basketball community for their patience during the extended off-season.
“We couldn’t be more excited to be announcing the start of the Hungry Jack’s NBL season.
The NBL is one of Australia’s most popular sports and fans can’t wait for the season to start,” he said.
“I want to thank all of our clubs, players, staff, officials and corporate partners for their outstanding support in what has been a long and challenging off-season as we get ready to deliver the NBL’s 43rd consecutive season.”
Tip-off times are still currently to be confirmed. All games will be broadcast live on SBS and ESPN.
