The Cairns Taipans are pleased to finally reveal their 2024-25 home-away schedule, with the first game at the Cairns Convention Centre set for Saturday 28 September against the Adelaide 36ers. The 29-game regular season will begin on Thursday 19 September – the earliest start date for the NBL since 2008 – and finish in February, with one FIBA break scheduled from 18 November – 26 November 2024.
All teams will start the 2024-25 NBL season in Western Australia, for the inaugural “Hoops Fest” event, where the Taipans will face the Illawarra Hawks at HBF Stadium on Saturday 21 September. This fixture is in addition to the usual 28-game (14 home, 14 away) season and will factor into competition standings.
The 36ers will be the first team to visit Far North Queensland, when the Taipans host their first home game on Saturday 28 September at 5:30pm. The team’s next game will also be at the Cairns Convention Centre, with the reigning champion Jackjumpers visiting the following Friday, with a later 7:30pm tip-off (due to daylight savings) before Taipans game nights revert back to the usual 6:30pm start.
The Taipans’ home schedule features five Saturday games, four Thursday night games, two Fridays, two Tuesdays and one Sunday afternoon fixture. The single Sunday game on 19 January (vs Adelaide) at 3:30pm will be the club's annual “black out” game, when Cairns' most popular uniform will be on display for one game only, for charity.

Dates for the other themed rounds are yet to be announced, however the Taipans will again celebrate Indigenous Round, Champion Pride Round and Heritage Round as previous seasons, with special uniforms and activities to highlight each event.
Last year, the Taipans hosted their first ever game on Boxing Day, and the well-received holiday fixture will return for a second time, with Melbourne United joining in for the festivities on the Thursday night.
The New Year’s Eve game remains a firm fixture for Far North Queensland, and this time the Taipans will ring in 2025 with the New Zealand Breakers before the Cairns Regional Council fireworks on the Esplanade.
Notably, the Taipans will play three doubleheaders in a row throughout the month of January, with tough flight paths to close out the season: Perth, New Zealand and Tasmania.
Cairns will host their last regular season game on Thursday 6 February, before playing their 29th game in Tasmania on Saturday 8 February 2025. The FIBA window from 17 February – 25 February and will likely serve as a break before the NBL semi-finals begin.
All games will be broadcast on ESPN. Memberships are currently on sale! Get more info here.
