On behalf of the Taipans Board, I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas and got to spend some time with loved ones at this time of year.
We know you are all as pleased as we are to see our full 2021 team announced, especially with the recent pre-Christmas signing of such a high-quality development player, Jordan Hunt. We couldn’t be happier with the group that we’ve got this season – incredible imports, super talented locals, three Championship-winning Kiwis and a future NBA Draft Pick. Not a bad summary!
While we hope you enjoyed the holiday break, we also hope you’re getting ready to ring in the New Year with us at our first game at the pop-up arena on New Year’s Eve. We have worked really hard to secure this fixture and ensure that our fans can keep up with tradition in such a challenging year, with an exciting Taipans game before the traditional fireworks. This will be a pre-season game like no other - after a very long off-season, our full squad have never been so ready to take to the court together and put on a great show.
If you haven’t yet had a chance, I encourage you to snap up an eight-game package in-store or grab a two-game pre-season package online so you don’t miss any of the action this season, and help make this temporary venue a fortress for us!
In other news, the NBL has announced an “NBL Cup” in Melbourne in February. This is a brand-new concept for the league, and we look forward to participating in this inaugural event. We are also assured that this hub will not impact our customary quantity of home games, so after the hub, we anticipate at least another six games in Cairns, and we eagerly await the completion of the renovated Convention Centre on March 31, 2021.
Given the unprecedented events of 2020, we are not in a position to hold the club AGM by the required date of December 31, 2020. We have applied to the Office of Fair Trading for an extension and one has been granted until March 31, 2021. The only item we are waiting on to hold the AGM is the audited financials which the appointed auditor is diligently working on. We don’t expect to wait until the end of March for this meeting – we anticipate sometime in January at this stage.
Thank you for all your support this year. The club have enjoyed seeing so many faces at Taipans HQ over the past few weeks and we wish the best for you and your families. See you on New Year’s Eve!
Best,
Troy Stone
