PhD SCHOLARSHIP
Examining novel approaches to strength and conditioning and game-readiness in professional men’s basketball
Objectives:
- Quantify physical and physiological characteristics of professional men basketball players.
- Monitor game and training demands in players using various approaches.
- Develop and implement training interventions to optimise player characteristics for competition.
Project overview:
The research project will be focused on implementing a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary player monitoring initiative encompassing novel approaches to acquire loading, strength and conditioning, fitness, sleep, nutrition, recovery, and health measures. In this position, the successful applicant will collaborate extensively with coaching staff, players, and the supervisory team, be expected to have input into related sport science activities and be responsible for delivering the S&C program.
Position:
The successful applicant will be enrolled through CQUniversity as a Research Higher Degree student; however, they will primarily be working with the CQUniversity Cairns Taipans as an embedded sports science scholar. The applicant should be available to commence the position prior to the start of the 2021-22 NBL pre-season (early Sept 2021). You will be provided with a workspace at the CQUniversity Exercise and Sport Science facility situated in the Cairns basketball stadium.
Eligibility requirements:
Applicants will require a minimum Bachelor degree in sports science or a related field to be approved for admission and enrol as an internal, full-time student in the Research Higher Degrees program at CQUniversity (Masters or PhD dependent on qualifications). Applicants with experience in strength and conditioning in high-performance sports and hold ACSA (Level 1 or 2 Strength and Conditioning) and/or ESSA (Sports Science Accreditation Level 1 or 2) accreditation are desired. Scholarship:
The successful applicant will receive an industry Elevate scholarship funded by CQUniversity and the CQUniversity Cairns Taipans ($30,000 per year, tax-free). Additional project costs and conference support (up to ~$25,000) will also be available. Australian and New Zealand citizens, or applicants from other countries residing in Australia are eligible for this scholarship.
