The Ground Cairns Marlins are pleased to welcome 6’8” guard Kody Stattmann to their NBL1 North 2022 campaign, in his long-awaited return home to Australia.
The Cairns Basketball junior has spent the last four years at the University of Virginia, where he became the first Australian to be part of an NCAA Championship-winning team in his freshman year.
The 21-year-old is already one of the Far North’s most successful young athletes, having represented Australia on multiple occasions, including the FIBA U17 World Cup, U17 Oceania Championships, U18 Asia Cup and the FIBA U19 World Cup.
Marlins Head Coach Kerry Williams said Stattmann will bolster his squad as the side look to improve on their 3-3 record.
“Kody is one of Cairns Basketball’s most successful juniors and he will bring another dimension to our offensive potency and contribute to the chemistry of our group.
“We want to be a disruptive team and play fast - he’ll add skills that will enable us to do that better while bringing college experience and youthful exuberance.”
Stattman recently signed with the Brisbane Bullets on a one-year deal. He will suit up tomorrow night against the top-of-the-table Gold Coast Rollers. Games begin at 6:30pm at Cairns Basketball - click HERE for tickets.
