The Kenfrost Homes Cairns Taipans have taken up their club option on experienced point guard Kyle Adnam, with the NBL veteran set to remain in orange for his 13th season in the league.
Adnam joined the Taipans last year – his sixth NBL team – where his leadership and guidance helped develop NBA-bound Taran Armstrong, surpassing 500 career assists in the process.
Leading the young side throughout a challenging campaign riddled with injury, the floor general utilised his lengthy basketball background for a strong run to close out the season.
Late in January, the 31-year-old had a memorable performance against Perth with 15 points, five assists and four rebounds which proved crucial in the double overtime win.
Adnam averaged 5.6 points, 2.5 assists and 1.3 rebounds during his first year in orange, despite being sidelined for six weeks with a dislocated kneecap and completely missing the pre-season.
The NBL journeyman began as a development player in Adelaide, Wollongong and Melbourne before finally being elevated to United’s roster in 2017.
For his fifth season in the league, Adnam helped United to a 20-8 regular season record, going on to win the Championship Series and be crowned 2018 NBL Champions.
Next to New South Wales, Adnam signed with the Sydney Kings for a stint before returning to Melbourne to help form the base of the new South East franchise in 2019.
Averaging 9.1 points and 2.6 assists across his first year with the Phoenix, Adnam’s leadership on and off the court won him the title of co-captain in 2020. He improved to average 12 points and 3.9 assists with repeated 20+ point performances in his best season to date.
He continued with the club through to 2023 – passing 200 games in the NBL on the way – before taking his talents to Romania.
An opportunity with the Illawarra Hawks as Nominated Replacement Player brought Adnam home, and he was a key figure in their brilliant run to the finals. He spent a season with his hometown Kilsyth Cobras during the off-season before signing with the Taipans.
Adnam joins Sam Waardenburg, Kyrin Galloway, Alex Higgins-Titsha and Kody Stattmann on the Taipans 2025-26 roster - with the club's Early Bird sale ending tonight! Click HERE to join up for the biggest discount of the year.
The NBL free agency begins on Friday, 4 April 2025.
