Galloway set for Taipans debut

Kenfrost Homes Cairns Taipans boom recruit Jaylin Galloway is set to make his long-awaited return to the NBL against New Zealand Breakers on Sunday.

Galloway has missed the first eight games of the 2026-27 campaign with a shoulder injury which required surgery after he won his third championship with the Sydney Kings in March.

“I signed with Cairns because I wanted a bigger role and opportunity," Galloway said.

"I also wanted to play alongside Kyrin, who I haven't played with since 2023 at an NBL1 level with Ipswich, when we won the title.”

Kyrin said there is no battle between him and his younger brother and is looking forward to playing alongside him for the first time in the big league.

“There wasn’t really any competition when we weren’t on the same team, and now we are on the same team, I’m just the ultimate teammate, so there will not be any competition from my side,” Kyrin said this week.

“It’s already been decided, everyone comes and tells me I’m the better brother, ask anyone around here, they will tell you.”

The 23-year-old again reconnects with Head Coach Adam Forde, who signed him to his first professional contract back in 2020 in Sydney.

"I'm excited to play for Fordey (Adam Forde), who gave me my first professional contract,” Jaylin said.

"He's built a really good group in Cairns, with a lot of players such as Brucey (who he won three titles with in Sydney), Jack [McVeigh], who I played at the Asia Cup with, Keanu [Pinder] and Reyne [Smith], who I went to the COE with.”
