Galloway set for Taipans debut

Kenfrost Homes Cairns Taipans boom recruit Jaylin Galloway will make is long-awaited return to the NBL against New Zealand Breakers on Sunday.

The 198cm swingman will make his debut in Taipans colours after making the off-season switch froom the Sydney Kings.

Galloway has missed the first eight games of Cairns’ campaign with a shoulder injury which required surgery after he won his third championship with the Kings in March.

“I signed with Cairns because I wanted a bigger role and opportunity," Galloway said.

"I also wanted to play alongside Kyrin, who I haven't played with since 2023 at an NBL1 level with Ipswich, when we won the title.”

Kyrin said there is no battle between him and his younger brother laughed about playing alongside him for the first time in the big league.

“There wasn’t really any competition when we weren’t on the same team, and now we are on the same team, I’m just the ultimate teammate, so there will not be any competition from my side,” Kyrin said this week.

“It’s already been decided, everyone comes and tells me I’m the better brother, ask anyone around here, they will tell you.”

The 23-year-old again reconnects with Head Coach Adam Forde,who signed him to his first professional contract back in 2020 in Sydney.

"I'm excited to play for Fordey, who gave me my first professional contract,” Jaylin said.

He also revealed to CODE Sports that’s he has already been impressed with the Orange Army after the first two home games.

“I feel like the fans are more into it in Cairns than in Sydney… I feel like the Taipans fans are actually there to watch, not just to be there.”
