CQUniversity Cairns Taipans forward Majok Deng has been ruled out for at least six weeks with an MRI scan revealing a partial tear to his MCL as well as some bone bruising.
Deng injured his left knee in the first quarter on Monday night at John Cain Arena, against Melbourne United. He will not need surgery, but will require a brace and crutches as part of his short-term rehabilitation program.
Taipans training player (and former development player) Tad Dufelmeier travelled with the team for the NBL Cup and will be elevated to the roster as an injury replacement from Round 7.
The Taipans play the Perth Wildcats on Friday and the Brisbane Bullets on Sunday.
