Jackson Makoi has accepted sanctions determined by Basketball Australia (BA) having recently been charged for driving under the influence (DUI) in the Gold Coast, Queensland.
The incident occurred during the NBL1 North season.
The matter has been dealt with under the BA Code of Conduct for Elite Level Participants, and the sanctions are as follows:
- An eight match suspension (and wholly suspended for six pending any other future Code of Conduct breaches)
- Makoi is eligible to compete in the NBL pre-season tournament on the Gold Coast
- Makoi will be ineligible to play the first two rounds of the 2024/25 NBL season
The Cairns Taipans, and Makoi’s representation, will work closely to provide him with counselling and education.
The Club/NBL/BA will make no further comment.
