The Kenfrost Homes Cairns Taipans announce the signing of Andrew Delano Andrews for the upcoming 2025-26 season.
The 188cm point guard joins the Taipans after representing USA Basketball at the 2025 FIBA Men’s AmeriCup last month, winning bronze.
Andrews most recently played in Lithuania with the BC Wolves, adding to extensive European experience.
Throughout his career, he has played in Greece, Latvia and Israel; but has spent most of his time in Turkey, suiting up for almost 100 games in their Basketball Super League. He averaged 15.8 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists over his five years.
Originally from Oregon, Andrews was recruited by the University of Washington in 2011. In his senior year, he was the leading scorer in the Pac-12 conference with an average of 20.9 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.9 assists.
He wrapped up his collegiate career with a memorable 47-point performance for the Huskies, defeating arch-rivals Washington State 99-91 and was named to the All-Pac-12 First Team.
Andrews joined the Los Angeles Clippers for the 2016 NBA Summer League and earned a contract with the Charlotte Hornets before accepting European opportunities, with a season also spent with the Delaware 87ers in the G League.
Taipans Head Coach Adam Forde said that the 32-year-old was on his radar throughout the off-season, but early discussions didn’t evolve due to timing.
“Andrews was a player we explored few months back, but we pivoted in a different direction as he had some prior commitments that would rule him out for the pre-season.
“But, as soon as we knew that we had to recruit another point guard – the call to his agent was the first one I made. I’m glad everything has fallen into place as he’s ready to make an instant impact,” said Forde.
“Andrews brings a decade of international basketball experience playing at the highest-level throughout Europe, and he’ll adapt to the NBL quickly.
“He’s a pro’s pro, I know he’ll slot in with this team and we are excited to have him join the group.”
The incoming American replaces Ashton Hagans, who was released from his contract last week at the request of his management due to personal reasons.
Andrews will fly to Far North Queensland later this week.
