Kenfrost Homes Cairns Taipans are proud to unveil their 2025 Indigenous Jersey, which will be worn in the round six clash against Melbourne United on Friday, October 24.
The uniform artwork designed by Gimuy Walubarra Yidinji Elder Uncle Hendrick ‘Henry’ Fourmile takes inspiration from the Seven Sisters Dreamtime story.
The artwork draws inspiration from the story — a renowned tale told by First Nations people across Australia that relates to the star cluster Pleiades in the constellation Taurus.
While the story takes on many variations, the theme remains constant. It is a story of a forbidden pursuit and a daring escape, of desire, magic and family bonds.
The vibrant jersey features a deep navy base highlighted with striking Indigenous symbolism, complemented by the Torres Strait Islander and Australian Aboriginal flags on the top left corner.
Honouring the Past, Inspiring the Future
In Far North Queensland, the Seven Sisters story is also represented in the Atherton Tablelands through the Seven Sisters Trails, which connect the towns of Atherton, Malanda and Yungaburra. Just as the Seven Sisters guide, protect and watch over Cairns, the Taipans embody the region with pride and go into battle for the city.
The jersey is a celebration of identity, unity and intergenerational storytelling. A visual commitment to honouring First Nations culture both on and off the court.
Artist Story
Uncle Henry Fourmile is a traditional owner of Cairns (Gimuy) and a descendant of his great-grandfather's Jirtigiug and King Yeini of Cairns.
His traditional boundary lines stretch from north of the Barron River, south to Rices Creek, west to Emerald Creek and the oceans of the Coral Sea.
Alongside running his own local painting and decorating business, Uncle Henry is deeply engaged in art and culture. He is well-known for his ceramic shield design necklace and coolamons, and his artistic practice spans cultural storytelling for schools, organisations and special events, as well as handcrafted gifts for visitors, foreign executives and ambassadors.
This is not his first collaboration with the Taipans. Fourmile also designed the club’s Indigenous jerseys in NBL22 and NBL23.
