Official Charity Partner
In 2015 the CQUniversity Cairns Taipans announced IFYS Foster Care as the club’s official charity partner for three seasons until 2018.
The agreement will see the two community organisations working together to encourage community members to consider becoming foster carers.
The partnership is the first of its type for the club, featuring game night activations, community activities and a special-edition charity fundraising uniforms each season to assist in raising awareness about the need locally and nationally for foster carers.
IFYS (Integrated Family and Youth Service) provides out-of-home placements for children and young people in the child protection system across the Cairns and Sunshine Coast regions.
The partnership between IFYS and the Cairns Taipans aims to encourage community members to consider becoming foster carers, and halt the current decrease in carer numbers amid an increase in demand.
ABOUT FOSTER CARE
- As of December 2014 there were 1000 children in care of the Dept. of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services in the North Queensland Region alone.
- The number of children going into foster care will at least double in NQ in the next 10 years
- Despite the increased demand for foster carers, available carers are currently decreasing, a trend IFYS is committed to reversing.
