Media Release from CQUniversity

CQUniversity has announced its continued support of the Cairns Taipans, signing on as the team’s inaugural High-Performance Partner.

“CQUniversity’s relationship with the Taipans began more than 10 years ago and we are excited to continue our longstanding partnership with the club,” CQUniversity Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Nick Klomp said.

Professor Klomp said the new partnership not only reflected the University’s commitment to the Taipans and the Cairns community, but also to fostering high-performance and excellence in sports sciences and research.

“This mutually beneficial partnership will provide significant benefits not only to our students studying courses such as Sports Science, Allied Health (Physiotherapy) and Psychology – where they will have the opportunity to experience working with a national elite team – but it will also benefit the Taipans players who will be embedded in research that provides them with a holistic approach to strength and conditioning, as well as a comprehensive player monitoring program.”

Taipans CEO Mark Beecroft said: “CQUniversity has been an integral partner to our Club for over a decade now and we are so pleased to see our partnership evolve into this next phase. What began as the naming rights of the Taipans Academy, to our primary platinum partner, to our growing High-Performance sector, CQUniversity continues to demonstrate their loyalty to Cairns’ only national sports team and the success of basketball in our region,” he said.

“We are really excited about the potential of this historic partnership, and how together, our organisations can be industry leaders in the field of Australian sports science and high performance.”
