Management Committee

The Cairns Taipans team is owned by Taipans Basketball Incorporated, a not-for-profit community organisation with a licence which enabled it to enter the Cairns Taipans in the National Basketball League’s 2009/2010 season.

The members of Taipans Basketball Incorporated, numbering 153 [including several syndicates] elected a management committee in accordance with the registered rules of the association.

The CQUniversity Cairns Taipans is run by a voluntary Committee that employs a management team headed by Chief Executive Officer, Mark Beecroft.

Taipans Basketball Incorporated held its most recent AGM in October 2014.

The current management committee is as follows:

President: Troy Stone

Troy Stone is the principal of Telstra Business Centre Cairns and the Telstra Stores at Cairns Central and Smithfield and a long-time supporter of basketball in the region. He joined the management committee in 2012 as secretary. Troy’s businesses employ over 64 local people and contribute to many local sporting and community organisations. Troy has over 20 years’ experience in owning and running various small to medium businesses and in 2014 was recognised for his teams efforts in being awarded the Telstra Licensee of the Year Award – Qld. With three young daughters that also play basketball Troy is absolutely committed to the long-term success of basketball in Cairns.

Vice-president / Treasurer: Ross Moller

Ross is a Real Estate Agent and has been in business for the past 23 years. He has been a resident in Cairns since 1980, a Taipans season member for 10 years and is also a foundation member. Ross played basketball for several years and has a sound knowledge of the sport.

Secretary: Karen Mounsey.

Ms Mounsey is a foundation member of the Taipans with more than 25 years’ human resource and management experience. For the past five years she has been part of the senior management team at Apunipima Cape York Health Council.

Board Member: Steve O’Malley

Steve joined the Taipans as a Committee member at the AGM held in November 2011, has played and coached basketball and has been involved with the club since its inception. Steve specialises in online digital development and management with his local company, Travelism, and is a previous Taipans Club Person of Year (2001-02 season) and a foundation member

 

Board Member: Mike Scott

mike-scott_14y8mrlkd0wrb16jmqzbol97z2Mike is the Operations Manager of Cairns Basketball Incorporated, and has been involved with the sport of basketball for more than 40 years as player, coach, manager and game official. Mike has more than 20 years’ experience in commercial banking, and has held a position on the committee since the association’s incorporation. He remains the committee’s grassroots representative to ensure ongoing links and commitment with junior basketball development.

 

 

 

Board Member: Adam Gowlett

Representing David McCoy Homes and Cairns Key Real Estate as both sponsors and foundation members, Adam has more than 25 years’ project management experience in the development industry.  Adam is an active industry advocate holding the role of UDIA branch president Cairns from 2008 until 2011 and then again from 2013.  Adam is a member of the Cairns MTB Club and is the Junior Development coordinator for the club’s younger members. Adam and his family have been keen supporters of the Taipans since coming to Cairns in 2006, with Adam hosting a corporate box since 2010.
