The Skytrans Cairns Taipans helped assist the Mossman Basketball Association’s new junior recruitment drive by visiting primary schools in the Mossman community last week.
Snakes players Phill Jones, Kerry Williams, Gary Boodnikoff, Dwayne Vale and club Community & Operations Manager Joel Khalu visited four schools throughout the day and then conducted a clinic at the Mossman Indoor Sports Centre after school in which close to 70 kids were in attendance.
The Taipans visited Mossman Primary School, Miallo Primary School, Wonga Primary School and St Augustine’s to deliver talks on healthy living & being active while also conducting a number of Basketball skills and drills activities.
Skytrans Cairns Taipans Community & Operations Manager Joel Khalu said it was great to see how popular the sport and the Taipans were in regional centres like Mossman.
“The kids really love their basketball here and it’s a credit to the Mossman Basketball Association who have been some terrific work in promoting the game,” Khalu said.
“Hopefully through our visit we can help create further interest and get some more kids playing the sport.”
“The Taipans represent all of Far North Queensland and there are a lot of season members that support us from Mossman and Port Douglas.”
“It’s a high a priority for our club to continue to service these communities and hopefully help develop a few more future Taipans,” Khalu added.
