The Skytrans Cairns Taipans have joined forces with COUCH (Committee for Oncology Unit Cairns Hospital) to raise funds to help care for people affected by cancer.

The Snakes have donated an 8-seat corporate box and drinks package to COUCH for the last home game of the season to see the Taipans will be taking on the New Zealand Breakers on Saturday, February 13.

To fundraise, COUCH will be promoting a running auction for the box, via the Cairns Post and in conjunction with on-air via 4CA/846 up until Friday, February 12 where the winner will be announced.

As part of the festivities on game night, mascot Joe Blake will be wearing a one-off yellow Skytrans Cairns Taipans uniform which will go up for bid on E-Bay following the game.  All funds raised from the selling of the uniform will also go towards COUCH.

Joe Blake said assisting COUCH was a high priority for the club, one that was extremely close to his heart.

“My father passed away 18 months ago from Malignant Melanoma and the trek back and forth to Townsville to receive radiation treatment certainly didn’t help” Joe Blake said.

“Cairns needs these services for people affected by Cancer so they don’t have to have the burden of travelling elsewhere.”

“The Skytrans Cairns Taipans are happy to do whatever it takes to help raise that much needed funding,” Joe Blake added.
