The Cairns Marlins secured their second consecutive win last weekend, defeating the South West Metro Pirates 108-79 at the Fishtank, behind solid performances from the Taipans squad.
Alex Loughton, Anthony Fisher, Tevin Jackson and Damon Heuir all started for the Marlins, scoring a combined 74 points to continue their form from week one.
Heuir, again was the star – shooting the ball well from mid-range to score the game-high 28 points (8/11 FG) while getting himself to the foul line 13 times.
Alex Loughton was superb in the absence of Stephen Weigh (injury – foot) scoring 21 points (6/10 FG) while Anthony Fisher also chipped in 13 points.
Tevin Jackson showed off his all-round skill with 12 points, seven assists and four rebounds.
After the first two rounds at home, the Marlins now go on their first road trip of the season, to face the Brisbane Capitals tonight (watch the live stream HERE from 8:00pm AEST) and the Spartans on Sunday.
Over in the NZNBL, NNanna Egwu and Mitch McCarron both put in solid performances in the Supercity Rangers’ back-to-back Round 8 clashes.
They split their two games, beating Taranaki Mountainairs 106-83 on Thursday night before going down 87-98 to Wellington on Friday.
McCarron was by far the best player on the floor on Thursday, scoring 28 points and grabbing eight rebounds, then followed up with another 18 points, seven assists and six rebounds on Friday.
Egwu registered a respectable eight points and seven boards on Thursday, before showing fantastic energy again on the boards against the ladder-leading Saints, picking up a double-double of 12 rebounds and 16 points.
Last night, they opened Round 9 playing the Nelson Giants with a 76-71 victory. Macca had 13 points and six rebounds, while Egwu was great from the field (5/8 FG) on his way to 10 points, moving the Rangers to a 6-5 record.
