The CQUniversity Cairns Taipans organisation has grown from strength to strength by remaining true to its roots in the Cairns community.
The club remains the only side in Cairns to compete in a national league, thanks to a loyal and passionate local following that rallied to save the club in 2009 with the Save the Taipans campaign.
Now, under a community-ownership model operating as a not-for-profit incorporated association, the Taipans undertake a rigorous schedule of community engagements and support to local charities to recognise and repay this contribution by the community.
In 2014-15, the club amassed more than 1000 hours of community activities including school visits, basketball clinics, charity events and promotions and fundraising events on request, such as school fetes and community events: all at no charge back to the community.
